What you will learn
The Volunteer Army Builder equips activists, organizers, issue groups, and campaigns at every level to quickly increase their impact locally while building a long-term volunteer base.
The skills and models that will be taught are distilled from best practices of campaigns, marketing, sales, and psychology; the activities are designed so participants make immediate progress towards their goals for volunteer, membership, donor, and prospect recruitment.
This training is intended for locally-focused activists, with an emphasis on volunteer and membership recruitment that can be applied to campaign, neighborhood, and campus operations. All activities are designed to produce immediate results and breakthroughs for those who participate fully.
Attendees will learn how to:
Recruit and Retain Volunteers and Organization Members
Build Coalitions and Lists of Contacts, Donors, Supporters, Petition Signatures, etc.
Activate Contacts to Get and Stay Involved
Connect New Members on Social Media and in Person
Organize Data with Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets
Nurture Relationships in the long term

Nathan Fatal
Grassroots Trainer and Organizer
Nathan is a Grassroots Trainer for the Leadership Institute and an organizer based in Los Angeles. He has overseen hundreds of volunteers and campaign field staffers in 20 states and has trained over 7,000 activists from all 50 states and dozens of countries. His training has led to successful lawsuits in California, and legislation in Arizona, that protected free speech at 76 public colleges. He has served as a Deputy Field Director for the Massachusetts Republican Party, the Northeast Regional Coordinator for Rand Paul for President, the West Regional Director for Young Americans for Liberty, and the Pacific Regional Field Coordinator at the Leadership Institute. In 2020 he was a Field Director for a Congressional Campaign and advised two ballot initiatives, netting over 200,000 voter contacts.
